Songs
Sometimes, when you’ve spent the day in the studio, music blasting, concentrating on the minute details that seem important at the time and always consume your last remaining bit of concentration, you bring the song home, put it on your Ipod, and realize very quickly that it just doesn’t work.
Today is one of those days. We are working on a song (working title “Square One”) that, played alone, is a great song. But somewhere, in the maze of drum beats and bass-lines, piano parts and guitar riffs, the song got lost in the mix. Now we face an uphill battle, trying to figure out how to match the production with the song, the vibe with the lyrics. It’s slowly coming together, but it takes a lot of work and patience to find the best way to do it.
Nate’s in the other room putting down some guitar sounds with C. Todd. Johnny Alex and Kit are messing around on keyboards, and I’m near the computer pressing buttons on a echo effect.
This song may take awhile, but we’re all in good spirits. The session on Saturday with the gospel choir was amazing, and the strings sound incredible. New music soon!
